Transport Program

The RCHS transport program helps alleviate pet overpopulation in Randolph County by moving dogs to areas where they have a greater chance of being adopted.

For more than a decade, RCHS has been a partner of PetSmart Charities and participated in their very successful Rescue Waggin’ transport program for dogs.

Hundreds of thousands of dogs have been saved through transports to states where spay/neuter laws are relatively strict and the supply of adoptable dogs is relatively low. By moving dogs from areas like our own where the supply is greater than demand, we are able to help balance it out and avoid euthanizing for space. 

In 2016, PetSmart Charities decided to become a granting agency and discontinue direct operation of their transport program. Instead, they now help us operate our own program. 

The experience RCHS gained from working with the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin’ program gave us the solid foundation of operating protocols necessary to transport dogs and keep them safe, healthy, and adoptable. 

And by continuing to transport, RCHS is having a significant impact on alleviating canine over-population in Randolph County!
